THE HEART OF A TEACHER The heart of a teacher has to be big enough to love a whole classroom of new students every year, Yet small enough for a child to hold in his hand without fear. The heart of a teacher has to be light enough for a child to be able to steal, Yet heavy enough to endure countless hurts so very real. The heart of a teacher has to be tough enough to take a beating when life isn't fair, Yet tender enough to break when a child is in despair. The Creator of hearts knew teachers would need something more, To enable them daily as they walk through the door. So they were filled with patience, kindness and love, That leaves room for gentleness, goodness, the peace of a dove. There was room left for joy and much self-control, And finally some faith, which plugged up the hole. Thus the heart of a teacher is special and dear, Filled to the brim to last through the year. It is light, yet heavy, big, yet small. Tough, but tender to answer the call. The success of a teacher we would all confess, Comes from a loving heart, and from it we're blessed.
